GONG: THE CITY

Cities are living organisms shaped by the continuous interaction of people, architecture, light, and movement.
Through GONG: THE CITY, Studio Artech interprets the urban environment not as a fixed landscape but as an evolving system built upon time, data, and human activity.


Installed at One Grove in Magok, Seoul, the artwork reconstructs the many layers of the city through digital language, inviting audiences to rediscover familiar urban scenery from a new perspective. Fleeting moments of light, movement, and spatial rhythm are transformed into an abstract media artwork that reveals an unseen dimension of everyday life.

데이터를 통해 다시 그려낸 도시
<GONG: THE CITY> 는 도시의 조도와 풍광, 그리고 움직임 데이터를 기반으로 생성됩니다.
스튜디오 아텍은 이러한 정보를 단순한 수치나 시각화 자료로 표현하는 대신, 알고리즘을 통해 끊임없이
변화하는 생성형 비주얼로 재구성했습니다.
작품은 도시의 조도와 풍광, 사람과 차량의 움직임 등 다양한 도시 데이터를 기반으로 생성됩니다. 
화면 위를 채우는 수많은 점과 입자들은 서로 연결되고 흩어지기를 반복하며 도시의 성장과 변화, 
그리고 보이지 않는 흐름을 상징합니다. 작은 움직임들이 축적되어 거대한 도시의 풍경을 만들어내듯, 
작품은 데이터가 만들어내는 새로운 도시의 초상을 제안합니다.

GONG: THE CITY is generated from the city's brightness, landscape, and movement data. 
Rather than presenting information as numerical analysis or conventional visualization, 
Studio Artech transforms these datasets into continuously evolving generative imagery 
through algorithmic processes.
The artwork is generated from multiple layers of urban information, including light intensity, landscape conditions, and patterns of movement throughout the city. 
Countless particles gather, disperse, and reconnect across the canvas, symbolizing the invisible forces that shape urban growth and transformation. Just as countless individual moments build the identity of a city, these visual elements combine to create an ever-changing portrait of contemporary urban life.

새로운 시점을 만드는 공간 경험
‘GONG: THE CITY’는 Anamorphosis 기법을 적용하여 특정한 시점에서 비로소 완전한 형태를 드러내도록 설계되었습니다. 관객은 공간을 이동하며 작품의 형태가 변화하는 과정을 경험하고, 시선의 변화에 따라 도시를 바라보는 방식 또한 달라지게 됩니다.
미디어 캔버스와 건축 공간은 하나의 연속된 환경으로 연결되며, 작품은 스크린 안에 머무는 영상이 아니라 
공간 전체를 구성하는 시각적 경험으로 확장됩니다.

Employing anamorphic techniques, GONG: THE CITY reveals its complete form only from specific viewpoints. As visitors move through the space, the artwork continuously transforms, encouraging them to rediscover the city through shifting perspectives.
Rather than functioning as a conventional screen-based installation, the media canvas merges with its architectural surroundings to create a seamless spatial experience where digital imagery becomes part of the environment itself.


원그로브를 담은 도시의 색
이번 프로젝트의 비주얼은 원그로브가 가진 도시적 맥락과 자연 환경에서 출발했습니다. 
도시의 활력을 상징하는 레드와 오렌지, 자연의 안정감을 담은 그린과 블루 계열의 색채는 현대적인 건축과 
중앙정원의 풍경을 하나의 시각 언어로 연결합니다.
추상적으로 재구성된 그래픽은 첨단 산업과 자연이 공존하는 마곡의 정체성을 반영하며, 기술과 환경, 
사람의 흐름이 하나의 리듬으로 공존하는 미래 도시의 모습을 표현합니다.

The visual identity of the project is inspired by the unique character of One Grove and its surrounding environment. Vibrant reds and oranges evoke the energy of the city, while greens 
and blues reflect the calmness of nature, connecting contemporary architecture with the land
scape of the central garden.
Abstract graphic compositions reinterpret the identity of Magok as a district where advanced technology and nature coexist, presenting a vision of a future city shaped by harmony, movement, and continuous interaction.
